BBC Scientology Documentary (Full Video)

John Sweeney has been stalked and hounded and as usual the church will try to censor criticism. John Travolta has blasted the BBC over a documentary investigating the controversial scientology religion. The star filed the complaint after BBC journalist John Sweeney confronted Travolta at a movie premiere, asking "Are you a member of a brainwashing cult?"

Inaccurate in some spots and wildly biased. The vast majority of the interviews were from people who didn't like Scientology. This guy obviously had preconceived notions about the religion and wasn't willing to change his mind about them, nor did he even consider the possibility. This story had very few facts and was filled with opinions. There is no doubt that this guy's intention was not to report reality but to twist people's opinions and to create new bigots.
I'm a Scientologist and I love my religion. Brainwashing has not occurred. In fact, Scientology is the exact opposite of brainwashing. I looked into brainwashing when I first heard this rumor. In brainwashing, there are 3 key ingredients: unconsciousness, pain and suggestion (hypnosis). Unconsciousness and pain can be (and usually are) provided by drugs (i.e. general anesthetics). In Scientology, we actually aren't allowed to take the classes or receive the spiritual counseling if we've had most drugs within the past 24 hours (this includes alcohol, but not nicotine or caffeine). Sometimes, depending on the drug and the dosage of said drug, we have to wait a week. So, brainwashing can't possibly occur.
In Scientology, every step of the way, you are allowed to make your own decisions. No one ever forces anything on you. If someone tries to force something on you, it isn't Scientology.

From the average Joes point of view, I now find the entire idea of Scientology nothing short of disturbing. Before you react by saying that I'm a victim of a biased and poorly researched documentary - you're wrong. Yes, the docco was biased, but it appeared to be so due to the bizarre and recluse actions of the leader and followers of what is undoubtedly a cult. I'm saddened that people in this world have become so disillusioned that people (who obviously have real issues themselves) can prey on their situation (be it depression, drug addiction, or whatever) to recruit to a strange, dark and completely self-serving 'religion'. Again, from an average Joe, it appears that the people defending this cult are in serious denial or in ignorant bliss as to their issues. It seems to me (and this is my opinion, therefore by default biased) that this cult consists of vulnerable individuals with a delusion of grandeur. I'm not trying to ridicule - I'm merely trying to point out my sincere concern and frustration. How do you convince a crazy person they are crazy? I think John Sweeny has had a great try at doing this, but could be pushing 'you-know-what up hill'.

It seems very clear that the interview Sweeney did was biased and slurred. It is very hard to believe a journalist is doing an unbiased documentary when he poses as a John Travolta fan and shouts abuse at this wonderful actor. It is also very difficult to believe he is doing an unbiased documentary when one views the footage of him totally out of control after viewing first hand the tools of trade of mental health. There seem to be an inordinate amount of 'experts' on Scientology who have not done any courses or any training in it. Why not ask those many millions whose lives are better as a direct result of this philosophy? Why not include 50% of the programme on that view also? That would seem balanced. It is a basic human right that each one of us is entitled to choose our religion. The BBC has put itself into great disrepute and in my view can no longer be respected as an unbiased source of news. I believe they would regain some respect by apologizing publicly, completely scrapping the biased documentary and putting on a balanced documentary showing the many lives that have been changed positively through Scientology.

This documentary has a purpose and that purpose is stir up hatred and distrust of a religion. This is bigotry. Were a similar documentary made of the Jewish faith or the Catholic faith this interviewer would have been scorned by all. Bigotry is Bigotry and can not be hidden behind the cloak of investigatory journalism. The fact that this appeared in a state sponsored media is apalling and undermines the separation between church and state which is so essential to the survival of our world at this time. If we do not demand the religious tolerance what hope is there for the future of a civilization in our pluralistic world. As an individual of Jewish descent I am reminded of a bigotry that led to the destruction of 6 million years again. It's apparent that the Church of Scientology intends to find back and I applaud their efforts.

Everything they do is to contain, surround, erect totems to warn people off, and lie to prevent public understanding that it is a naziesque moneygrubbing scam that chews up innocents and spits out dead bodies, lawsuits, psychopaths and criminals.

Scientology is the worlds biggest theatrical, the rubes are taught by the introductory course, how to appear to be telling the truth, and how to 'act' like a superior being.

The extent of their lies is breathtaking.

Religious tolerance is great and I'm all for it, but Scientology is not a religion.
